A young boy has grow to be the hero of his school and community within the Central Region after fast braking a transferring school bus after the driver collapsed behind the steering wheel. The 13 Years Old  Augustine Nii Odoi Laryea become the hero of his school, Carefield School Complex at Bawjiase in the Central Region.

The incident passed off last month but did now not get media interest, according to a local language TV station; Onua TV. There was at least 50 people on the bus – comprising pupils, teachers and a caterer – whilst the incident came about.

On Friday, August 11, 2023, producers of Onua Maakye, the TV station’s morning show, featured young Augustine on a phase of the programme, to pay attention the total story and renowned his bravery and when he was asked by Onua Maakye host, Captain Smart, why he stepped in to keep away from what might have been a road disaster. Augustine said:

I noticed that the bus became switching lanes haphazardly from left to proper, something that has not been the characterist of the driver. “We had closed from school and were on our way home…The driver was driving carelessly till we were approaching Opembo bridge getting to Bawjiase from Kasoa. The bridge is under construction so the driver attempted to pave way for an overcoming vehicle, but I realised that the car was heading toward a pit under the [Opembo] bridge under construction,” he said in Twi.

He continued to add at this point, I was convinced some thing was not right because that was not how the driver handle the bus after they closed from school and became heading home.

He said he sitting close to the driver as at the time so he looked at the driver curiously and noticed that there was a foam coming out of the driver’s mouth. “When I noticed that [foam at the driver’s mouth] I stepped on the brake of the bus. Everyone started screaming and shouting. Some of my pupils were even insulting me,” he recalled.

Even after stepping at the brake, the bus did not stop completely so the caterer on the bus and every other teachers quickly rushed out and placed a chock under the car.
Augustine, who disclosed that he can drive, stated with the bus being temporarily secured he shouted to his colleagues to get off as quickly as they could and that they did so.

The driver, who at point was unconscious was rushed to the Bawjiase Hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Buduburam where doctors pronounced him dead
