The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has lauded students from the Bunkpurugu Constituency within the North East Region for their dazzling display in a ridicule parliamentary debate that received the hearts and admiration of many Ghanaians.
Mr Bagbin made the commendation at an academic forum organised by the Department of Public Engagement in Parliament at the Justice D.F. Annan auditorium for some students from the Bunkpurugu constituency, a day after the House adjourned since last week Thursday.
The discussion, organised in conjunction with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bunkpurugu, Abed-nego Azumah Bandim, and coordinated with the aid of a National Executive Committee (NEC) member of the NDC, Cecilia Asaga, sought to deepen the knowledge and know-how of the students in parliamentary proceedings and democratic governance in the country, gave the students a travel experience of Parliament, and fostered significant interaction amongst Members of Parliament (MPs).
The visit by the students was followed a video of some students of the Kings Star Academy in Bunkpurugu, whose mock parliamentary proceedings went viral on social media.
MPs who had been gift to interact with the students were MP for Nadowli Kaleo, Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah; MP for Salaga South, Zuwera Ibrahimah; MP for Yunyoo, Oscar Liwaal and MP for Timpani, Lamisi Lydia.
The Speaker, whilst applauding the students for their articulate demonstration of mock parliamentary business, urged them to remain steadfast in all their endeavours and encouraged them to no longer permit present conditions to avert them from reaching their goals.
He mentioned his humble beginnings in worse situations, difficult him to defy all odds to upward thrust to the highest office in Parliament as the first Northerner to achieve that feat.
Mr Bagbin described the students as a shining instance and advised them to be centered, explore their particular potentials and identities and embody dedication, emphasising that “dedication determines a future”.
The speaker pledged his aid to an enchantment for a motorable road network, which is currently affecting schooling.
He assured the students of advocating for the construction of better roads of their constituency.
The MP for Bunkpurugu, Mr Bandim, praised the Speaker for the target audience, pronouncing the interplay would develop their mind, promote civic engagement and increase the subsequent technology of leaders who are informed, and devoted to having a wonderful impact on society.
“I am convinced that this first-hand enjoy with the legislature could role them to severely compare the movements and guidelines of elected officials, and keep elected representatives to a better general,” Mr Bindam espoused.
He applauded the academics for their first rate guidance and tutoring, contributing to the scholars’ wonderful performance inside the viral video.
Erica Yandam, the student who performed the function of a Speaker within the viral video, could not express her pleasure meeting the Speaker of Parliament on her first ride to Accra, saying her dream has always been to emerge as Ghana’s Speaker sooner or later and the instructional trip has inspired that dream.
