The Concerned Students with Special needs of the University want government to expel the Registrar of the Scholarship

The Scholarship Secretariat has stated government has at all times supported people with special needs at the various tertiary levels in the country.

This comes on the back of calls for the removal of the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat by the Concerned Students with Special Needs at the University of Ghana.

The Concerned Students with Special needs of the University want government to expel the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat from office over what it describes as a “glaring display of colossal incompetence and dereliction of duty on his part as a registrar.”

According to the group, in a statement issued and co-signed by its leader, Gilbert Boateng Agyare and its President Mellish Kwame Agyapong, if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, fails to expel the Scholarship Secretariat Registrar from office, then he should be ready to “face the most mammoth demonstration in the history of the country against his government by special needs students across the country.”

The group has given government a 2-week ultimatum to remove the Registrar of the Secretariat from office else it would “hit the streets” in their numbers to “embark on a massive demonstration against the government.”

Reacting to this in a statement issued on Tuesday, 28 August 2023, the Scholarship Secretariat noted that: “Bursaries to target applicants are processed for payment on receipt of claims from beneficiary institutions.”

The Secretariat noted that at its last meeting with leadership of the Students with Special needs held 2 weeks ago, it indicated that “the Secretariat had not received any application in respect of their claims for the past 3 years.”

It however, revealed that it received Bursary applications two weeks ago, and assured the group that “claims are being vetted and payment will be made in due course.”
